Release: Microsoft System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 Update Rollup 2

Microsoft has released Update Rollup 2 which can be installed on top of System Center 2012 Service Pack 1. The Update Rollup package contains fixes for all the System Center 2012 products except Configuration Manager which has its own Update Rollup mechanism. This Update is cumulative, meaning that it also contains the updates coming from Update Rollup 1.

Release: Piston Enterprise OpenStack 2.0

Today, April 9, Californian Piston Cloud Computing announced a new release of  its core product built on OpenStack open source cloud framework: Piston Enterprise OpenStack.
Piston Cloud, founded in January 2011 by former NASA and Rackspace leaders, joined OpenStack Foundation as a gold member in September 2012. The company raised $8M in a series B funding from Cisco System, Data Collective, Divergent Ventures, Hummer Winblad, Swisscom Ventures and True Ventures in February 2013.

Release: OpenStack Grizzly

Another release for open source cloud computing project OpenStack and this one is the seventh, on April 4, Openstack announced Grizzly.

This new release saw the contribute of over 500 participants and has about 230 new features to support production operations at scale and integration with enterprise technologies, including broad Software-Defined Networking support, its development cycle focused on supporting practical use cases for deployers and operators, including Best Buy, Comcast, CERN, HP, NeCTAR, NSA, Rackspace, Samsung SDS.

Hotlink releases Amazon EC2 Plug-in for use in System Center Virtual Machine Manager

Hotlink today released a new version of Hotlink Hybrid Express, a solution to manage Amazon EC2 from the Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) console. Hybrid Express is Hotlinks product for deploying, managing and administrating hybrid and off-premise cloud, using either SCVMM or VMware vCenter. Hotlink also announced the availability of a free edition of Hybrid Express for both SCVMM and vCenter.

HotLink’s patent-pending transformation technology abstracts public cloud platforms and workloads so on-premise management consoles treat them just like on-premise hosts and virtual machines — fully integrated and managed as a unified pool of resources without the need for a separate management console.

Paper: Performance and Capacity Themes for Cloud Computing

IBM has released a paper titled: “Performance and Capacity Themes for Cloud Computing“. The paper which contains 76 pages addresses the performance and capacity considerations of the evolving cloud computing model. The paper gives an overview of the lessons learned after IBM published an earlier paper titled “Performance Implications of Cloud Computing“.

This paper offers practical guidance about how to select workloads that work best with cloud computing, and about how to address areas, such as performance testing, monitoring, service level agreements, and capacity planning considerations for both single and multi-tenancy environments.

Release: Microsoft System Center Cloud Services Process Pack for System Center 2012 SP1

Microsoft has released a new version of the Cloud Services Process Pack (CSPP) supporting the System Center components part of Service Pack 1 for System Center. The Cloud Service Process Pack is a service solution for automating the deployment of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The CSPP once implemented offers a self-service experience using the Service Manager self-service portal to facilitate private cloud capacity requests from your business unit IT application owners and end users, including the flexibility to request additional capacity as business demands increase.
