Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5

Red Hat has released its OpenStack platform version 5. The Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform is able to create, deploy, and scale a public or private OpenStack cloud. The OpenStack Platform is build on top of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and uses the Icehouse release of the OpenStack cloud platform as its basis.

Version 5 provides the following new features:

  • Support for managing VMWare vSphere resources from the OpenStack dashboard (Horizon)
  • Support for the VMware NSX Plugin for OpenStack Networking (Neutron)
  • Support for the VMware Virtual Machine Disk (VMDK) plugin for OpenStack Block Storage (Cinder)
  • Support for server groups, allowing workloads to be spread acrosse OpenStack Cloud
  • Acces to better quality encryption using the para-virtualized random number generator device
  • Better interoperability of networking stacks
  • Technology Preview of OpenStack data processing service (Sahara) for faster provisioning and easier management of Hadoop clusters
