SAP, provider of Enterprise Resource Planning software has invested $40 million dollars in Virtustream in a series D funding round. Virtustream, positioned as a Niche player in the 2013 Magic Quadrant by Gartner is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider and also provides software for its Cloud platform called xStream. Virtustream was one of the first cloud providers which was certified by SAP. Time will tell if SAP will take the next step, which is a full takeover of the company and integrating its technology into the SAP offerings extending its Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions.
