Skytap Announces New AutoNetworks™ and CloudControl™ Capabilities for Enterprise Hybrid Clouds

Today, November 14, Skytap has released an update to its AutoNetworks™ technology adding a multi-virtual private network (Multi-VPN) capability.

The company is rapidly growing in cloud computing, in August introduced virtual private PaaS; new hybrid cloud capabilities for VMware environments and today is offering the possibility to its customers to create multiple two-way secure connections with multi-VPN capability, they would be able co connect a single Skytap environment to multiple geographically distributed on-premise endpoints.  Multi-VPN capability would give the opportunity to create secure hybrid clouds.

Microsoft announces Big Compute capabilities for Windows Azure

Microsoft yesterday announced some enhancements to Windows Azure which allow customers to run applications that require large amounts of compute power also known as Big Compute. By providing Big Compute capabilities customers can leverage the Cloud scaling capabilities to support their ever-growing need for compute power.

In order to demonstrate the capabilities Microsoft ran a LINPACK benchmark resulting in a 151.3 Tflops on 8,065 cores with 90,2 efficiency, and Microsoft therefore submitted the data to be included in the Top 500 of the world’s largest supercomputers.

Amazon announces its new AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region

Today, November 12, Amazon has announced its new Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region.

The new Australian region is joining Singapore and Tokyo and would be available for multiple services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). End-users based in Australia and New Zealand would be able to run their applications without the trouble of latency and bypassing up-front expenses, long-term commitments, and scaling challenges associated with maintaing and operating infrastructures.

Release: Apache CloudStack 4.0.0

Yesterday, November 6, the Apache CloudStack project announced the 4.0.0-incubating release of the CloudStack Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud orchestration platform.

The Apache CloudStack community was working on the incubating release for more than six months. This delivery includes  new features, bugfixes and security fixes and it is the first release from within the Apache Incubator, the entry path into the Apache Software Foundation (ASF).

Microsoft launches Office 365 and Azure Cloud in China

On November 1st, Microsoft announced the launch of Office 365 and public cloud platform Windows Azure in China.

Microsoft is delivering to China its products for many years, this is going to be a step forward for both the Chinese customers to be able to move to the cloud and for Microsoft to have the opportunity to grow further due to the strong demand for public cloud services in China, according to a Forrest Research report on cloud computing.

Microsoft yesterday announced the release of a beta for its Assessment and Planning Toolkit (MAP) version 8.0. MAP is Microsofts capacity planning tool, which it releases for free as a so called solution accelerator. MAP uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), Active Directory, SMS Provider, and other technologies to collect data in your environment and inventories computer hardware, software, and operating systems in small or large IT environments without installing any agent software on the target computers.

Microsoft announces previews of Windows Azure HDInsight Service and HDInsight Server for Windows

Last week Microsoft announced a new preview of both the Windows Azure HDInsight Service and Microsoft HDInsight Server for Windows.

HDInsight delivers Apache Hadoop compatibility, which is a open source platform and provides a framework that allows for the distributed processing of large data sets (so called big data) across clusters of computers using simple programming models and is designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines, each offering local computation and storage.
