Paper: vCloud Reference Architecture Kit

VMware has made available a bundle of white papers under the name of “vCloud Reference Architecture Kit”, aiming to help cloud architects designing cloud infrastructures (IaaS) using vCloud Director.

The vCloud Reference Architecture Kit follows the paper published on February about vCloud Director Performance and Best Practices.

The arguments covered in the papers span from the public to the private vCloud implementation scenario, including service definitions for both, vSphere architecture design, vCloud provider design, security and management.

A summary of the content of each paper is available below:

  • Architecting a vCloud Whitepaper (30 pages): introduction to vCloud, creation of services and use of vCloud Director to manage and size a vCloud.
  • Service Definition for Public Cloud (12 pages): service, compliance and architecture definitions for the public cloud
  • Service Definition for Private Cloud (8 pages): two phases implementation of common use cases with different workload categories
  • VMware vCloud Implementation Example: Public vCloud Service Provider (27 pages): sample implementation of a public vCloud
  • VMware vCloud Implementation Example: Private Enterprise vCloud (27 pages): sample implementation of a private vCloud
