Release: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Today Canonical announced the new Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS with a press release intriguingly focused on its role as an OpenStack platform.

This release, that will be available on 17th April, will include a new version of Juju and MAAS, the latest container technologies from Docker and LXC, OpenVSwitch, Ceph, the support for IBM Power Systems and IBM’s open architecture called POWER.

Accompained  by a large group partners that can count names such Cisco, Brocade, Dell, EMC, etc, Ubuntu will be the first enterprise platform supporting IBM Power, ARM64, x86 and x64 according to the press release.

As a final note OpenStack User Survey, dating October 2013, reports that Ubuntu runs the 55% of OpenStack’s workloads, followed at a fair distance from CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
