Symplified hires Vice President of Global Channels

Symplified has hired Ralph Hubregsen as Vice President of Global Channels, becoming responsible for expanding the Symplified ecosystems of partners and resellers. Hubregsen comes from Venado Technologies which he founded and where he was VP for 2 years. Before that he was VP Sales at Monosphere for 3 years in the timeframe 2006-2008. Before that he was Founder and President of the Saillant Consulting Group for 7 1/2 years in the timeframe 1998 – 2005.

Release: Xen Cloud Platform 1.0

In November last year the Xen Cloud Platform 1.0 hit beta being the developed as the follow up of version 0.5 released in July last year, which was considered a stable release. Now the Xen community has released version 1.0 of the Xen Cloud Platform., the evolution of Citrix XenServer as described by Citrix itself.

This version supports integration with the OpenStack Bexar release, OpenStack is the platform RackSpace uses for its Cloud Solution, which it open sourced in July last year.

Release: VMware vCenter Orchestrator Plug-in for VMware vCloud Director 1.0.1

VMware has released a plug-in which allows orchestration of vCloud Director, VMware’s management platform for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) clouds from vCenter Orchestrator 4.1 released in August last year, a development and process-automation platform that provides a library of extensible workflows to manage the VMware vCenter infrastructure and other technologies.

Release: Skytap Hybrid Cloud Feb 2011 edition

Skytap has released an update to its Cloud Platform adding a feature called the Skytap Self-Service Hybrid Cloud.

With Self-Service Hybrid Cloud, which is a graphical user interface for setting up IPSec connections Skytap claims that it can lower the time to create a hybrid cloud to as little as ten minutes, where it would take two or three weeks before. This was mainly caused by requiring additional back-and-forth communication between the provider and the customer.

Amazon introduces stack building automation solution

Amazon has announced a new feature called AWS CloudFormation, providing the capability to create complex systems (called Stacks) using one function call in programming. The stack will be described using a template in the form of a JSON string, which in turn is used to build the stack in the proper order. If it cannot create the stack for some kind of reason it will initiate a rollback by default.

tuCloud hires new CTO

Cloud service provider tuCloud announced last week that it has hired Matthew Leib as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Leib comes from EMC, where he was Senior vSpecialist focusing on integrating Cisco, VMware and EMC products for 1 year. Before that he was VMware architect and Manager at VMware for almost 5 years.

Before that Leib worked 3 years as Technical Architect at RapidApp, for almost 3 years as Senior Manager of Network Services at Holleb Consulting, as Network Support specialist, at Panasonic Factory Automation for more than 2 years, and held his own Consultancy Services firm for 2 years.

Symplified appoints VP of Engineering

In January Symplified hired Michael Corbisiero as their new Vice President of Worldwide Sales and added two former Netscape executives, Taher Elgamal and Todd Rulon-Miller to their board of directors. Now Symplified announced that it has promoted Jay Wallingford to Vice President of Engineering, Business Wire reports.

Wallingford started his career at Symplified in 2007, before that he was Director of Development at Hart Intercivic for 1 year and 4 months. Before that he was Director of Engineering at Crosswalk, for 2 years and 2 months and he was also CTO at Leopard for 4 years and 3 months. He also worked for Aarondak, Bolder Heuristics, and Intergraph.

Rackspace acquires Anso Labs

Rackspace last week acquired software developer Anso Labs, a participant in the OpenStack project, which Rackspace co-founded with NASA as an open source project which covers the technology that powers the Rackspace cloud computing platform, backed by Dell, Citrix, Cisco and Canonical. Anso Labs designed and built the Nova compute fabric which is part of the NASA Nebula private cloud.

With the acquisition, Rackspace wants to increase its investment in the success of OpenStack and its open source strategy.

Microsoft appoints new Server and Tools boss

In January this year, Microsoft announced that Bob Muglia, President of the Server and Tools Business Division (STB) would leave the company this summer. Now Microsoft has announced that Satya Nadella, will follow up Muglia as the new president of the Server and Tools division, Mary Jo Foley reports.

Nadella is a veteran who already works for 19 years at Microsoft, and was leader of the engineering department of the Online Services Division. Prior to that the led Business Solutions, and led several engineering teams in the server group.

With the announcement, Senior Vice President Server and Cloud Amitabh Srivastava who was also in the run for this position, decided to leave the company. Srivastava was responsible for the Windows Azure cloud-computing platform.

Paper: VMware vCloud Director Performance and Best Practices

In September last year VMware announced the vCloud Director, a management platform for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) clouds powered by VMware vSphere 4.1.

Now VMware has published a paper titled: VMware vCloud Director 1.0 Performance and Best Practices. The paper which contains 32 pages covers four areas regarding the vCloud Director performance: sizing guidelines and software requirements, best practices for performance and tuning, performance characterization for key vCloud Director operations and behavior with low bandwidth and high latency networks.
