Amazon has released a virtual appliance plug-in for VMware vCenter, called the EC2 VM Import Connector. With the EC2 VM Import Connector installed you can import VM’s from vSphere into Amazon EC2. The feature leverages the VM Import feature which was announced in December last year.
The connector is capable of storing separate AWS credentials for each vCenter user, so that multiple users with separate AWS accounts can use the same connector. The connector is capable of importing Windows Server 2008 SP2 (32 and 64 bit) VM’s which are turned off, and which use a single virtual hard drive not larger than one TB. Amazon plans to extend the functionalities of the connector in the future, like VM Export and support for additional image formats and Oses.
